Mission Trips

The Center for Missional Outreach encourages all North Texas Conference churches to work with United Methodist Volunteers In Mission (UMVIM) to plan and organize their mission trips. This organization exists to help you with insurance, training, and location possibilities.  

The purpose of UMVIM is to enable the participation of United Methodists throughout the world in global mission volunteer programs so that affirming, empowering and trusting relationships are established.

Insurance

We get lots of questions about insurance for mission teams.  If you are going to an UMVIM site, then you can purchase insurance from them by going to www.missionvolunteers.org    Click on the link that says Insurance.

Teams going to foreign destinations may purchase accident and health insurance from PACT here at the Ministry Center. The contact person is Carolyn Bryels in Administration.   

Trip Opportunities

 Haiti - January 2011   Leaders Trip

In January 2011 a team from the North Texas Conference will be going to Haiti.  This team is being organized specifically to give future team leaders the experience they need to qualify to return with their own team.  Applications will be accepted until August 1st, 2010.  To apply, contact the Center for Missional Outreach at missions@ntcumc.org   

 Brazil - November 9-21, 2010

This is a nationally organized trip being led by Jeanie Blankenbaker, former asst. secretary of the Mission Volunteers Unit of GBGM.  This trip is for United Methodist women and is an "Ubuntu Journey", which is supported by the Women's Division and Global Ministries.  The objective of the trip is to build bridges between US and Brazilian Methodist women.  For more information, contact Jeanie at jbumvimny@aol.com or call her at 843-342-7092. 

El Salvador - October 2-9, 2010   Habitat For Humanity Leaders Trip

Join other DFW church leaders and pastors as we travel together to build a Habitat home and experience ministry opportunities in El Salvador. All attendees will receive a 100% scholarship to cover trip costs (excluding airfare and passport fees).  Deadline for applications is June 1, 2010. Our Special Partnership with Habitat For Humanity

Through Global Village Faith Builds, Habitat for Humanity partners with the faith-based community to send support and volunteers on international mission trips to eliminate poverty housing.   www.faithbuild.org

NTC Churches who wish to build a Habitat home with the International Faith Builds program may apply for an advance approval for the granting of a scholarship. Churches may choose the destination of their team as long as the materials, supplies, local labor, and in-country costs for that location do not exceed $10,000 for each home built.
